Chess Notice, Jan 2024

On Thursday 18^th of January we invited seven schools to compete in a friendly chess tournament. We were joined by teams from St. Benildus College, St. Andrew’s College, Oatlands, CUS, Loreto Foxrock, Loreto Abbey Dalkey and the Institute of Education. In total 14 teams joined us, and we had 2 teams from Blackrock. It was a team tournament which consisted of five rounds each with a 5min +3sec game tempo. Our coach Hector was arbiter for the day.

A great day was had by all. A total of 64 students took part and each had the opportunity to participate in 5 games of chess. It was excellent to have such a large gathering. Congratulations to the Institute who won the tournament receiving 17 of 20 points. Also congratulations to Oatlands College who came in second and third place. Even though we didn’t win we had a highly commendable score of 11.5 points and it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience for our students. We look forward to Oatlands hosting a similar event next.
