Basketball – U-19 A Basketball Ireland East Leinster League v Templeogue College

U-19 A Basketball Ireland East Leinster League

BLACKROCK COLLEGE 51 | TEMPLEOGUE COLLEGE 69 |
Templeogue College are arguably the best team in schools’ basketball in Ireland. They recently defeated All-Ireland Champions Coláiste Éanna in another game in the group. While of course a loss is disappointing, given that Coláiste Éanna beat us by 60 points only a few weeks ago, to push a team of the calibre of Templeogue as close as we did represents huge progress for the squad.
Templeogue has an excellent first half to the game, moving the ball at speed and highly efficient with their conversion of opportunities on offence. They led 40-18 at the halfway stage. Though it was a highly draining game physically and mentally, we won the second half 33-28 which was hugely pleasing.
Maitiu Heckmann (Captain – 6th Year) with 13 points led the way on offence closely followed by Eric Brandt (6th Year) and Sam Curley (4th Year) with 11 points each. James Burton (6th Year) scored 8 points and was impressive with his rebounding at both ends of the court. Luke Brophy’s (6th Year) infinite energy and effort levels impressed throughout as well as scoring 8 points.
We thank Mr O’Neill and his team of coaches Rory Linnane (Class of 2017), Barry O’Sullivan (Class of 2018) and Roberto Brusasca (Class of 2019).
