Basketball – Blackrock v Oatlands, Feb 2024

Congratulations to captain Peter Gilligan (2nd Year) and his team on their win against Oatlands College.

The game started slowly with every player trying to find their rhythm. The first basket by Conor Carey (1st Year) created a domino effect which led the team to start making shots more consistently. Despite this fire power of an offence, Oatlands ended the quarter 8-9 up.

While offence is important, defense wins games. Rock denied Oatlands any score in the second quarter and the first half ended in a score of 18-9.

Blackrock began the third quarter with a sluggish start but managed to hold a lead of 8 going into the final fourth.

The final quarter started strong for Peter Gilligan, as he sank the next 7 baskets. This incredible performance and perseverance from Peter was why he dropped a historical 20 points. Finally, Carlos Rodenas (2nd Year) hit back-to-back clutch baskets to seal the win for ‘Rock. The final score was 32-23 in an incredible win by this young squad.

Captain Peter Gilligan and Vice-Captain Javier Poza can be proud of their and their teammates energetic work on offence and defence.
