2nd Year Basketball
March 2024
Blackrock College 25 |
Coláiste Chiaráin 30 |
Blackrock travelled to Coláiste Chiaráin, Leixlip, for the first round of the Plate Competition. Despite a slow start to the match, Rock ultimately took the lead going into the second half. The third quarter was where the team found their stride. They played a strong defensive quarter that kept Coláiste Chiaráin’s score down. While on offense they played brilliantly. Good passes, quick cuts to the basket and two impressive three-pointers from Peter Gilligan and Javier Poza resulted in a 16-point quarter.
With a 9-point lead going into the final quarter, a win was within ‘Rock’s reach. However, the tide of the game turned completely as Coláiste Chiaráin took control of the game and continuously pushed to the basket. Their aggressive defence made it difficult for ‘Rock to get to the basket. With our shots not landing and offensive plays being shut down, Coláiste Chiaráin began to catch up, ultimately securing a lead in the last minute of the game.
Captain Peter Gilligan (14 points) and Vice-Captain Javier Poza worked well to keep the team motivated despite a challenging game. They and their teammates can be proud of their commitment over the season and their continued improvement. The squad can look forward to some more friendly games in the coming weeks.
