Basketball – 2nd Year Plate Semi Final vs Belvedere
2nd Year Plate Semi-Final
March 2023

Blackrock College 41 | Belvedere College 44 |
After a hard-fought game against Colaiste Eoin, we advanced to the semi-final of the Plate Competition against Belvedere. Peter Lee opened the game with a quick 3-pointer, while Rocky Kenneally and Hugh Foley worked well on rebounds to get the ball into the net. A strong offence and defence by Belvedere kept the score close. The score line going into the second quarter was 17-11 to Blackrock.
Our aggressive defence and rebounding put Belvedere under pressure. Alvaro Garcia worked hard on defence to intercept passes and cause turnovers. While Santiago Franza kept the score up with a few great baskets. The first half ended in a score of 23-18 in our favour.
Belvedere began the second half with a strong, quick offence. While drives to the basket from Santiago and Peter sent them to the free-throw line. Rocky’s strong rebounding under the basket forced fouls from the Belvedere side which led to more free shots.
We had a slight lead, 32-28, going into the final quarter. Nevertheless, Belvedere came back strong on offence and played an effective defence. We played strong to the end but unfortunately it wasn’t to be as Belvedere came back with an impressive final burst of energy. The final whistle blew with a score of 41-44 to Belvedere.
Co-captains Peter Lee and Santiago Franza can be proud of their and their teammates’ work. Leading the offensive charge were Peter (22 points) and Santiago (11 points). Jose Carlos de la Cuesta, Alvaro Garcia and Adrian Ho worked well on defence to keep the pressure on Belvedere. While the whole team worked well together to play a strong and competitive offence and defence. The team can look forward to future friendly games after the Easter exams.
We thank Ms Fitzsimons for her preparation of the squad.
