2YR Dublin Schools Gaelic Football Final Report, Feb 2024
Second Year
Dublin Schools’ Gaelic Football Final Report
February 2024
BLACKROCK COLLEGE 4-10 |
ST.PAUL’S RAHENY 4-4 |
Congratulations to the second year Gaelic Football team on an emphatic second half display to win the Dublin Schools’ title for the first time. Playing into a tempestuous breeze in the first half, Blackrock were very fortunate to only be a goal behind at half time. Man of the match, Hugo Glynn, gave a scintillating defensive display, seeming to be omnipresent whenever Blackrock were in trouble, even venturing up the far side of the pitch to finish his shot in the net, meaning our scoring deficit wasn’t too challenging to overcome in the second half.
St. Paul’s scored the first point after the break to lead by four. However, Blackrock dominated the rest of the half. Super sub Archie Quinn scored two goals within the first two minutes of coming on and his introduction seemed to inspire the players around him to improve their performance. David Ffrench, Jack O’Neill, Jack O’Connor and captain Charles Coffey added to the points tally in the second half before Archie Quinn pounced on a loose ball to score his hat trick illustrating our dominant display in the second half. St. Paul’s finished with two late goals to narrow our winning margin.
We now qualify for the Leinster final which will be played the week of the 26th of February. We would like to thank coaches Pat Smith, Mr McWalter, Mr. Grant, Rob Kenny (class of 2021) and Marc Ó hAoghusa (class of 2023) for their coaching and organisation of the team.
