Book of the Week (week 1: 29th August)

Refugee Boy – Benjamin Zephaniah 

Alem is a 14 year old boy who has to flee his country which is engaged in civil war, to seek asylum in the UK. The novel depicts what it’s like for a 14 year old boy to be plunged into an alien culture, away from his beloved family and how he copes with the asylum seeking process.

A beautifully written book dealing with loss, culture, friendship and belonging.
