Basketball – Blackrock v St Michaels, Feb 2024

Blackrock hosted a 2nd year game against St. Michael’s last Wednesday afternoon.

The first quarter started off with a few quick baskets from St. Michael’s that put them in the lead. Alex Mulsow did great work under the boards fighting for every rebound and loose ball, while Daniel Chambers executed great drives to the basket.

The score entering the second half was 22-14 to Michael’s. ‘Rock knew this was an important quarter that could change the outcome of the game. Peter Gilligan and Daniel Chambers played brilliantly together with quick passes and fast cuts to the basket. Arlo Liddy worked well to maintain defensive pressure on Michael’s. The team’s efforts resulted in a great comeback that saw the third quarter end with the score of 28-27 to Michael’s.

With a win within their grasp, the team went  out to play an energetic and dynamic fourth quarter. Their unrelenting aggressive defense and great teamwork on offense turned the tide of the game. ‘Rock started to pull ahead as they kept Michael’s scoring to a minimum. The final whistle rang in a score of 39-34 to ‘Rock.

Leading the offensive charge were Daniel Chambers (17 points) and Peter Gilligan (16 points). Captain Peter Gilligan and Vice-Captain Javier Poza can be proud of their and their team’s efforts in this game. The squad’s commitment to training and hard work at previous matches has paid off with a great win.  The next match is on Wednesday March 6^th against Colaiste Chiarain.
