Mental Health Awareness Day 2022

Last Thursday the Student Wellbeing Committee organised one of our key Feature Days in the College Calendar – Mental Health Awareness Day. Our Amber Flag, which we apply to renew annually, graced the top of the Clock Tower. 6th years and staff made sure the corridors were awash with the colour orange visually representing our commitment to create a space where positive mental health thrives.

In the classroom, 2nd and 3rd years discussed naming emotions, the fact that emotions are not negative or positive and practised strategies that aim to help when we feel our mental health needs a boost. 5th and 6th years listened to a talk by Dr. Colman Noctor on the elements in our lives which can impact our mental health as well as practising coping strategies. Our TY students participated in SOAR mental health workshops where they looked at developing resilience and the factors that can protect our mental health.

The Student Wellbeing Committee launched their Cuppa Club, a place where staff and students can just come and chat. It proved incredibly popular and we look forward to having another Cuppa Club closer to the Christmas exams.
