WESLEY COLLEGE: INTER-SCHOOLS’ MUSIC FESTIVAL 7TH – 8TH MARCH 2014
As ever, the Annual Wesley College Music Festival lived up to its reputation for excellence. It is the Schools’ Cup Of Music and we are very proud of the performance of all our competitors.
On Friday evening, our Leman Choir won the Frank Hughes Cup awarded for First Place in the Boys’ Choir competition. Two hours later, the Libermann Choir finished 2nd in the Unaccompanied Vocal Ensemble – pipped by one point, by our hosts, Wesley.
Saturday provided opportunity for Soloists and amongst many excellent performance. Ross O’Leary (6th Year) won the Senior Rock Guitar Competition, while 1st Class Honours was awarded to David Roper-Nolan (6th Year) for Senior Solo Singing, both classical and popular, Evan Holland (6th Year) for Solo Singing popular, Dane Fitzpatrick and Evan Holland (both 6th Year) for Vocal Duet and Harry Kearns and Conor Williams in the Piano Solos U14 and U16 respectively. Oisín McEnroe finished 2nd in the Strings U16 competition.
Our Rock Band ‘Loose Threads’ – Kevin McDonnell, Ben Duffy, Ronan Holohan, Ross Finnegan and Richard Grainger (all 5th Year) was Highly Commended in the O16’s Category.
And finally, our Orchestra under the baton of Mr André Cavanagh was also Highly Commended on Saturday afternoon.
It was a great Festival and I thank Ms O’Kane, Ms O’Connor and Mr Cavanagh for the extraordinary work, time, effort, talent and expertise they put at the disposal of our boys.
