U-19 BASKETBALL IRELAND
East Leinster Shield Quarter Final
BLACKROCK COLLEGE 31 BENEAVIN COLLEGE 44
Heart-breaking though it is to lose a quarter final it is hard to look back on the U-19 Basketball season with anything but pride and a positive outlook going forward.
The panel for this game was made up entirely of 5th, 4th, and 3rd years so it was a very young squad that took the court, but a very talented one.
There was never more than five points in it until the fourth quarter when we seemed to run out of steam and Beneavin capitalised on this. Cal Roughan (5th Year) was excellent in defence, Andrew Keenan (5th Year) scored 18 points and Calum Henry (5th Year) brought pace to the team. Special mention must also go to Mark Crowley and Gavin Kildea (both 3rd Year) who made their debut at senior level with aplomb.
The squad has a bit of everything; height and power under the boards, pace, skill, amongst many other attributes. Next season can be looked forward with optimism.
I thank Mr. O’Neill and Shane Kelly (class of 2013) for their preparation of the squad.
