The Carol Service – Christmas 2015
THE CAROL SERVICE – CHRISTMAS 2015
Yesterday, we paused for an hour, suspended the immediate to consider what is important.
I hope you made it.
Over 1,000 boys, 1st Years through to 6th Years, gathered in the Sports Hall and through Carols, Readings Prayers and, of course, the wisdom of Fr. Cormac O’Brolchain retold the story of the birth of Jesus Christ.
Fr. O’Brolchain encouraged us all to spend time with God this Christmas. In the midst of all the tinsel and wrappings, food, fun and games, we should not forget Jesus.
It was a great occasion with so many highlights but the rendition of ‘O Holy Night’ by Shane Conlon, Shane Sweeney and Hugh Egleston (all Sixth Year) accompanied by the Leman and Corless Choirs and College Orchestra was superb.
This was a very special occasion. Some missed it out of choice. A pity. Those who were there contributed hugely by their singing, by their presence. Powerful.
I thank our Readers, Laurence Shields, Paddy Fox, Daniel Ryan, Cian Ryan, Andrew Thompson, Tiernan O’Hagan, Tim Maguire (all Sixth Year);
Colleagues Ms Ni Choncheanainn, Ms Wildes, Mr Walsh and Mr Rogan;
Cantors Ben Jordan, Rory Patterson, Stephen Rooney (all Sixth Year)
Chris Wong and Alan Francis (both Fifth Year);
Libermann, Leman and Corless Choirs;
Servers Colm O’Flaherty, Donal O’Cribin, Jack Cosgrove (all Sixth Year) and Tom Dooley (Second Year) for their reverence and sense of occasion.
I particularly thank Ms O’Kane, Mr Cavanagh, Mr Grumley Traynor,
Mr Fintan O’Connor, Ms O’Connor, Mr Tommy Moore and their wonderful colleagues from Household, Maintenance and Grounds;
Mr Herlihy, Mr Tom Ryan, Mr Wyer, Mr O’Reilly, Mr Goan, Mr McMahon and the Deans;
Mr Rogan, Ms Sheehan, their colleagues and boys of Willow Park First Year;
My colleagues in attendance, the Spiritan Community and, of course, our Student body led by our Sixth Years.
Powerful.
