Tear Up The Ground is set in rural Ireland in the old, country house of the Bergin family. Roy, the father, has died and Cian, who has been left for years to look after him, the house and the farm, must now welcome home his two older brothers who he has not seen for over a decade.
As they prepare for the approaching wake of their father, under the ever watchful eye of Fr Keyes, the three brothers must re-engage in each other’s lives. Through comedy, song, storytelling and violence, the brother’s must process their past if they have any hope of engaging the reality the future holds. In trying to resolve their differences, the three brothers must revisit the childhood they endured in an attempt to address the unshakeable impact left by the shadow of their father’s presence on each of their lives.
Tear Up The Ground is a funny and disquieting exploration of family life and the inter-generational nature of the effect we can have on those closest to us, as we all strive to establish a genuine sense of belonging in our lives.
