The schools table tennis season came to a close with the Leinster Cup Finals, Friday 12 May, with 7 Blackrock teams in action at semi-final stage in UCD Belfield.
Minor Cup – Blackrock A, Willow A and Willow B
In the Minor Cup, Blackrock A, Willow A and Willow B made up three of the four semi-final places, with Minor A facing Griffeen Valley and Willow A playing Willow B. Despite a hard fought match, a couple of tight scorelines went against Blackrock, as the Minors lost out 1-4 in the semi-final, as Griffeen went on to meet Willow A in the semi-final, defeating them 4-0. The Blackrock Minor team was made up of Alex Cronnelly, captain Colm Kelly, Stephen O’Nuallain, Evan Walsh (all 2nd Year), James Harvey and Adam Tunney (both 1st Year).
Junior Cup – Junior A and Junior B
The Junior Cup had Junior A and Junior B on opposite sides of the draw, and again had the possibility of throwing up an all Blackrock final. Junior A put in their best performance of the season to defeat the League Runners-Up Colaiste Éanna 4-1 in the top half of the draw, but unfortunately a weakened Junior B team went out 0-4 against Castleknock College. In the final, Junior A had a comfortable 4-0 win against Castleknock to take a 7th consecutive Leinster Schools Junior Cup, and a 9th title in 10 years. Junior B was made up of Charles Cullen, captain Conor Hughes, Darragh Kelly, Eliot McNamara, Lorcan Patchell (all 3rd Year), Conor Crumlish (2nd Year) and Jacques DePatoul (1st Year).
Senior Cup – Senior A and Senior B
Two Blackrock teams were also in the Senior Cup Semi Finals, again on opposite halves of the draw, and on this occasion there was an all Blackrock final, with Senior A coming past Colaiste Eanna, 4-1, while Senior B defeated Castleknock 4-0, with Senior A taking the honours in the final, winning a 9th consecutive Leinster Schools Senior Cup, and completing their treble of Leinster Senior League, Senior All Ireland and Leinster Senior Cup titles. Senior B was made up of Stephen Campbell, Kevin McCabe (both 6th Year), captain Barry O’Keeffe and Harry Owens (both 5th Year), while Senior A was made up of Charlie FitzGerald, Louis Murphy (both 6th Year and captain Joey Nelson (5th Year).
