Table Tennis – Leinster Cup Finals day
TABLE TENNIS
BLACKROCK JUNIORS AND SENIORS completed both their Leinster League/Cup Doubles with victory at Belfield on Leinster Cup Finals Day, May 9th, with BLACKROCK JUNIOR A completing their own ‘Double-Treble’ of Leinster League, Leinster Cup and All Ireland Titles in 2015 and 2016.
Blackrock were the only school to take 2 Titles on the day, with the other 4 titles being spread evenly across 4 different schools.
SENIOR A completed their 7th consecutive Leinster League/Leinster Cup Double, with an unprecedented 8th Leinster Senior Cup title in a row, with 4-0 victories over Castleknock College in the Semi-final and Woodbrook College in the Final.
The team comprised of Stephen Campbell, Charlie FitzGerald, Captain Louis Murphy (all 5th Year) and Rory Murphy (6th Year).
JUNIOR A also completed their Leinster League & Cup Double, as well as the final leg of a Leinster/All Ireland Treble, making it 9 Leinster Junior Cup Finals in a row, an 8th Leinster Junior Cup in those 9 years, and a current streak of 6-in-a-row, with a Semi-final 4-0 win over Blackrock 2A, followed by a 4-0 defeat, in the final, of Presentation Carlow.
It was a fine performance from Blackrock 2A, in their first season playing for the College, in reaching the Leinster semi-finals, where they were unlucky to come up against our own Blackrock A Team.
BLACKROCK 2A comprised of Captain Andrew Doyle, Colm Hogan, Conor Hughes, Darragh Kelly, Eliot McNamara and Lorcan Patchell (all 2nd Year), while JUNIOR A comprised of David Campbell, Robert Kelly, Duran Osan (all 3rd Year), Captain Joey Nelson and Barry O’Keeffe (both 4th Year).
I thank Mr Butler and his Team of Coaches, Andrew Campbell, Stefan Kelly, Conal Molumby and Paul O’Kelly (all Class of 2015).
