Table Tennis All Ireland Championships 2017
Thursday, 27th April
At the All Ireland Schools Finals on 27 April, Blackrock Seniors, in their 8th consecutive All Ireland final, took their 6th title in 7 years as they defeated St. Louis CS (Connacht), last years Champions, 5-2 in the semi-finals, followed by a 5-2 defeat of Malone College (Ulster) in the final. The squad was made up of Stephen Campbell, Charlie FitzGerald, Kevin McCabe & Louis Murphy (all 6th Year), captain Joey Nelson, Barry O’Keeffe & Harry Owens (all 5th Year) and Alan Pattison (3rd Year).
Blackrock Juniors were unfortunate to play below their best, coming up short in their bid to reach a 7th consecutive All Ireland final, as they lost out to Colaiste Choilm (Munster) on a 2-5 scoreline, but finishing 3rd with a comfortable 5-3 win over Colaiste Muire (Connacht). The squad was made up of Conor Crumlish (2nd Year), captain Andrew Doyle, Colm Hogan, Conor Hughes, Darragh Kelly & Lorcan Patchell (all 3rd Year), David Campbell and Robert Kelly (both 4th Year).
Blackrock Minors also qualified for finals day, and were very unlucky to lose out in the semi-finals on a 3-5 scoreline to Kinsale CS (Munster), but finished 3rd after a 5-0 win over Claregalway College (Connacht). The squad was made up of Jacques DePatoul, Michael English, James Hamilton, James Harvey, Callum O’Brien & co-captain Adam Tunney (all 1st Year), Alex Cronelly, co-captain Colm Kelly, Stephen O’Nuallain and Jack Tarpey (all 2nd Year).
We thank the coaches Andrew Campbell, Geoffrey O’Connor (both Class of 2015), Gavin Maguire and Conor Mullally. I particularly thank our superb director of Table-Tennis Richard Butler.
