Our annual Sports And Family Day was left largely unspoiled by the weather as the large attendance enjoyed the varied sports programme, the open-day Display in the Lecture Hall, Senior wing and on St Patrick’s and Our Lady’s Corridor.

President of the Union Mr Greg Moore (Class of 1982) presented Nicholas Timoney with the Sports Personality of the Year Award. Unfortunately, Jordi Murphy (Class of 1982) was not available to receive the Past Pupils Sports Personality of the Year Award as he had to attend the Rabo-Direct – Pro 12 Awards ceremony held in Edinburgh on Sunday evening.

The Parents’ Draw is a feature of the day and the Winners were:

• John and Carol O’Mahony (Dan, 6th Year)

• Maurice and Mary Buckley (Maurice, 5th Year)

• Eugene and Maureen O’Keane (Michael, 2nd and John, 3rd Year)

The 154th College Sports And Family Day was a great success.

I thank Co-ordinators:

Mr Kehoe, Mr Fitzsimons, Mr Brown, Mr Herlihy, Mr Vanstone, Mr Aylward, Mr Luke O’Toole, Mr Smyth and my many colleagues who generously helped in the organisation of the day’s events.

I also thank Fintan O’Connor and his Maintenance/Grounds team, Catherine Kilmartin and the Catering staff, Kathryn Cummins and the Household Staff who ensured that it happened seamlessly. We are grateful to Sodexo for the sponsorship of the afternoon tea so that everyone’s contribution of €4.00 went directly to the 6th Year post-Leaving Certificate trip to Sultan Hamud.

Finally, I thank Greg Moore and his wife Aisling who presented the prizes throughout the afternoon.
