SPIRASI VISIT TO 5TH YEAR
SPIRASI is the Spiritan wing that works with asylum seekers, refugees and other disadvantaged migrant groups with special concern for the survivors of torture.
Rory Halpin, Director of Rehabilitation with Spirasi was joined by Dr. Ahmed Osman who had been tortured for his human rights work in his native Sudan. Dr Ahmed gave a powerful and moving testimony to the Year group. He subsequently complimented the 5th Years on their attention, respect and level of questioning.
The boys also participated in The Trading Game which demonstrates how current world trading systems disadvantage poor nations.
It is hoped that the 5th Year boys will organise a fundraising event in aid of Spirasi during the month of February.
I thank our visitors from Spirasi, the Fifth Year Religious Education teachers – Mr McMahon, Ms Payne, Fr. Hyacinth, Mr Madden, Mr O’Reilly, Mr Farrell, Mr Goan, Ms McMahon and Mr Walsh – Mr Tom Ryan and Ms Dobbyn for their organisation of the opportunity.
