Visit of St Bede’s, Manchester 11 – 13 March 2016
Blackrock College 1ST XI 2 St. Bede’s 3
Blackrock College 2ND XI 7 St. Bede’s 1
Honours were shared on the visit of St Bede’s to the College for the annual challenge games.
Captain Conor Gallagher (6TH Year) and his Senior Squad lost narrowly to a very good St Bede’s side on the front lawn on Saturday morning. Goals from Conor Cowhey and Peter Brown (both 6th Year) ensured that the game was in the balance to the end but an excellent St Bede’s side just deserved it.
Captain James Trueick led the Second Squad to a comprehensive victory with a hat-trick from Niall O’Leary (5th Year), a brace from Richard Mouatt (6th Year) and one each from Peter Walsh and Hugh Kenny (both 5th Year).
Both games were played in great spirit.
Our guests attended the Ireland v. Italy International in the afternoon and the weekend culminated with Mass on the Sunday morning.
It was a great weekend, a celebration of our shared heritage on an off the field.
I thank our host families who provided accommodation over 2 nights for our visitors, our Coaches Sean O’Dowd (Class of 2015), Dylan O’Reilly and Fred Kenny (both Class of 2014) and, of course, Head Coach Mr Evan O’Brien who also organised the logistics for the visit.
I also thank our Spiritan Community – Chief Celebrant Fr. Healy, Concelebrants Fr. Nash, Fr. Gavin, Fr. Dundon and Fr. O’Brolchain who also played the Organ, Deacon Liam and Bro. Joe – for a great liturgy.
It is an important occasion in our calendar and we look forward to the return visit next year.
