Soccer Marathon 2017

Soccer Marathon
Last Friday, 1st December, 125 Transition Year Students participated in the annual Soccer Marathon.
It was action-packed from the start and if you were looking for skill, great goals and flawless technique you would not have enjoyed what was on show here! The matches were played outdoors from 9am through to 5pm. After dinner the tournament moved to the Jubilee Hall and the energy levels showed no sign of dropping. Around 10.30/11pm the staff v student matches commenced with the students winning the first game and having humoured the students the athletic and gifted staff team won the second match.
After a brief respite for Pizza at midnight, the students went for a swim and had a FIFA tournament before somehow still managing to have the energy to play more soccer at 4.30am on Saturday morning. As the night wore on naturally they became an exhausted group of people but not once did the boys become irritable or anything like it; on the contrary their good humour continued to shine. And the outcome?
A phenomenal €10,227.52 was raised through their collective efforts.
A huge thank you must go to the staff team of Dillon Coughlan, Daniel Ryan, Mr Grant, Mr Daly, Brian Horgan, Fred Kenny, and Alan Sheridan. A very special thank you also to the four Transition Year student coordinators Jack Kane, Patrick O’Connor, Dylan Fahey and Matthew Wood for all of their efforts in organising this event.
I also thank our TY team of Mr Brennan, Mr O’Neill and Mr Savage who made it happen.
