Sixth Year Family Mass – Sunday, 24th September
Sixth Year Family Mass
Sunday 24th September 2017
Fr. Damian Farnon, chief celebrant at last Sundays 6th Year Family Mass, reminded the boys that “God never forgets us” no matter how we may see our relationship with Him. He urged the boys while on Retreat, to consider the person they would like to be and to use the time away to strengthen the ties of friendship with the boys that are with them.
During the Mass, Harry Kearns, Stephen Ryan, Niall Brady, Conor Fitzpatrick, Rory O’Reilly, Rory Gallagher and Conor Williams were commissioned as Special Ministers of the Eucharist. We congratulate the boys and thank them for taking on this very important ministry.
After the Mass, the 6th Years departed to 15 different Retreat Centres across 11 Counties. The Retreats are a highlight of our Sixth Year programme. They provide an opportunity for our boys to “Think, Discuss, Belong, Pray and to Be Yourself”; to build friendships and deepen faith; to consider the future and have fun.
Mr Eunan O’Carroll (Class of 1984), and his wife Judy represented the College Union at the Mass. It was a wonderful celebration, very well attended. It was great to have so many grandparents in attendance. I thank, Chief Celebrant Fr Farnon and the Concelebrating Community, Ms Connor, Mr Grumley Traynor, Mr Cavanagh, Mr Pendergast, Mr Ryan, Mr Hurl, Ms McMahon, Ms McGlynn, Mr Herlihy and Ms Nolan for their organisation of, and support for, the 6th Year Mass. I thank Eunan and Judy, the boys and their families who made it such a memorable and meaningful liturgy.
I particularly wish to thank Mr Hurl for his organisation of the Retreats, my colleagues who accompany them and also my colleagues who provide cover while they are away. It is a Whole School effort which delivers enormous benefit to our 6th Year boys.
