Senior Soccer – Dublin Metropolitan League Final 2022

Dublin Metropolitan League Final
May 2022
BLACKROCK COLLEGE 4 | ST AIDAN’S CBS 0 |
Congratulations to captain Max Mooney (6th Year) and his squad on their victory in Tolka Park yesterday, Wednesday 18th May, our first in this prestigious competition since 1982.
The day started with the presentation of the Jerseys to the squad by Chairman of the F.A.I. Mr Roy Barrett, who captained our winning team in 1982 and Ireland Coach Mr Stephen Kenny.
With their words of encouragement ringing in their ears, they stepped out on the Tolka Park pitch with confidence and determination. The 4-0 margin suggest a facile victory. It certainly was not. We led 1-0 half-time thanks to Max Mooney’s finish and after withstanding 15 minutes of intense pressure, Fergal O’Sullivan scored the first of his 3 goals which rocked St. Aidan’s. St. Aidan’s were reduced to 10 men midway through the second half and the match was effectively over and two further goals put the game beyond their reach.
It was a great team performance and this cup is deserved.
We thank our coaches Peter Quinlan (class of 2019), Ronan Cowhey (class of 2020), Riley Smith (class of 2021) and Mr Evan O’Brien who have invested so much of themselves in this year’s campaign. Finally, we also thank Mr Andrew Doyle (class of 1981) who generously allowed the final to be played in Tolka Park.
