Senior Soccer – Dublin Metropolitan League – BC v St. Benildus, Jan 2020

Senior Soccer Team – Dublin Metropolitan League

BLACKROCK COLLEGE 0 | ST. BENILDUS 3 |
Commiserations to Ronan Cowhey (6th year) and the senior soccer team on their loss in the semi-final of the Dublin Metropolitan league. In tough conditions St. Benildus settled quicker, they took the lead after 20 minutes after a through ball found their number 9 who slotted into the goal. We responded well, Eoin O’Farrell’s (6th year) effort crashed off the bar and it took a good save from the St. Benildus keeper to keep out Riley Smith’s (5th year) follow up effort. Unfortunately, St. Benildus got their 2nd goal immediately after this catching us on the counterattack.
The 2nd half was a very good contest. Playing against a strong breeze we kept possession well and created chances. St. Benildus were awarded a penalty in the 73rd minute to secure their 3-0 win.
The soccer squad now prepare for the Joe McGrath Cup which starts in a fortnight and beyond this the visit of St. Bedes Manchester.
Thanks to our coaches Mr Evan O’Brien, Ms Mullen and past student Peter Quinlan (Class of 2019) for their preparation of the team.
