Schools Rowing Championships
Limerick: Sunday, 27th April, 2014
Congratulations to Conor James Byrne and Charlie Lawless (both Third Year) who won our first ever National title beating ahead of Presentation Carlow in the Final by a canvas (one second approx).
In the U16 pairs we had two teams competing: A – Jack Crowley and Rob Brown and B – Scott Rolland and Robert Somers (all Third Year). Both missed the Final but the double of Somers and Rolland (6.09) beat Crowley and Brown (6.13)
In the U23 pair James O’Sullivan and Eoin Gleeson (both 6th Year)competed in a very competitive race against some Irish international talent coming fourth out of four just a length down on third in a very close race.
In the U15 Squad coxed – Riccardo Mei, Conor Byrne, Charlie Lawless, Andrew Ennis (all Third Year) and Cox Patrick Riordan (Second Year) missed out on qualifying for the Final.
The U16 coxed by James O’Connor, Stroke – Scott Rolland, 7 – Robert Brown, 6 – Rob Somers, 5 – Conor Byrne, 4 – Charlie Lawless, 3 – Andrew Ennis, 2 – Jack Stacey, Bow – Jack Crowley (all Third Year) raced against Presentation Cork in a straight Final losing by just over a length.
The U23 pair of Doug Clinch and Hugh Mohan (both 5th Year) beat King’s Hospital in their heat but were beaten by Castleknock College in the Final.
Unfortunately, the U23 Coxless four of Jack Nagle, Jack Brennan, James O’Sullivan and Eoin Gleeson missed the start of their race due to steering on their boat not fully working.
I thank Ms Gannon for her organisation, preparation and coaching of our Squads.
