A CELEBRATION OF OUR ACADEMIC PROGRAMME
President of the Union, Eunan O’Carroll (Class Of 1984), accompanied by his wife Judy, presented over 250 Awards to our Prize-winners. This is an important day, one when we celebrate our top academic students, celebrate those who have given service, recognise determination and resilience and honour those who have given of their best. Prize Day is a very special occasion – every student can, and should, aspire to be part of it. The boys who received awards last Saturday did so not just because they had the ability but because they have chosen to use it.
Valedictorian Stephen Ryan (6th Year) gave a very entertaining speech which reviewed the Class of 2018’s time at Blackrock.
The Principal acknowledged the contribution of Ms Bhreathnach, Ms Browne and Ms Gillman, who retire at the end of this academic year.
Finally, I thank Mr Sheil, Ms Wallace, the Deans, Heads Of Department Ms Markey, Ms Nolan and Mr Herlihy for the organisation of the Prize-Giving; Mr T O’Brien for his preparation of the hall and, in particular, the stage; the President of the Union, the Chair of the Board and Fr Cormac for presiding; our superb maintenance and household teams; The parents and boys; but most of all, my Teaching Colleagues in attendance who by their presence ensure that this is the academic highlight of the year.
