Prize Day 2017, Saturday 27th May

Prize Day 2017
Saturday 27th May
A VERY IMPORTANT DAY!
The appalling weather couldn’t dampen the spirits of our Prize Winners and their proud parents on Saturday last, 27th May. In itself it was a radiant occasion.
President of the Union, Brian O’Neill (Class Of 1981), accompanied by his wife Eibhlin presented over 280 Awards to our Prizewinners. This is an important day, one when we acknowledge and celebrate those who have given service, recognise determination and resilience and honour those who have given of their best.
Prize Day is a special occasion – Every student can, and should, aspire to be part of it. The boys who received awards last Saturday did so not just because they had the ability but because they have chosen to use it.
Valedictorian Joe MacIntyre (6th Year) gave a very entertaining speech which also contained very sound advice for his more junior fellow ‘Rockmen.
The Principal acknowledged the contribution of Mr Aylward and Mr Goan, both of whom have opted for early retirement.
Finally, I thank Mr Dunne, Mr Sheil, the Deans, Heads Of Department and Mr Herlihy for the organisation of the Prize-Giving; Mr T O’Brien for his preparation of the hall and, in particular, the stage; the President of the Union, the Chair of the Board, the Deputy-Principal and Fr. Cormac for presiding; our superb maintenance and household teams; The Parents and boys; but most of all, my Teaching Colleagues in attendance who by their presence ensure that this is the academic highlight of the year.
