A HOME WIN!

This was another great Blackrock occasion. The student team successfully opposed the motion “that this house fears the harmful effects of social media on society”, thus defeating their illustrious opponents.

It was a well-deserved victory in an excellent debate which was enjoyed by a large crowd of students, past students, parents and staff.

Student Team: Max McKenna, Michael Ryan (both 5th Year), Oisin Ryan and Stephen Ryan (both 6th Year).

Past Pupil Team: Shane Murphy (Class of 1981), Joshua Kieran Glennon (Class of 2015), Morgan Shelly (Class of 2001) and Dave Fanning (Class of 1971).

I thank the adjudicating panel, Mr Sheil, Ms Kelleher and Kevin Heavey (Class of 2015), the Chairman Eoin Martin (Class of 2005) and of course President of the Union Mr Eunan O’Carroll (Class of 1984).

I also thank the audience on the night for their encouragement of the speakers.
