News of the Past – Luke McCann Class of 2016

Congratulations to Luke McCann (Class of 2016) who ran the fastest ever 1,000 metres by an Irishman, breaking the long-standing Irish indoor set by Marcus O’Sullivan back in 1985.
Racing at the Louisville Invitational, McCann clocked 2:17.40, improving O’Sullivan’s old mark of 2:20.20, that times also bettering the Irish outdoor record of 2:17.58 which was held by David Matthews, set in Sarajevo back in 1996.
Luke clocked 3:53.87 for the mile in New York last weekend and is building nicely towards next month’s World Indoor Championships in Belgrade.
