Model United Nations (MUN)

Congratulations to our Model United Nations delegation that attended the four-day Conference at the Royal Russell School in Croydon, 18th – 21st October.

Our Delegates – Joshua Kieran Glennon, Joshua Gorman Climax, James Quinn, Richard Grainger, James Brandon, Scott Kinsella (all 6th Year) represented Qatar and Ronan Turner, Tom May, Michael Golden, Ivan O’Keeffe (all 6th Year) and Stephen Rooney (5th Year) represented Estonia.  There were 82 competing delegations from over 30 different schools.

Our Qatar team won one of the 3 Distinguished Delegation Awards.

Joshua Gorman Climax, Joshua Kieran Glennon, James Quinn, Richard Grainger (all 6th Year) and Stephen Rooney (5th Year) also received individual Distinguished Delegate Awards.  Outstanding.

Issues debated included:

•             Malaria

•             Banking Reforms

•             Drone attacks

•             Euthanasia

There was, alongside the daily routine of General Assembly, Committees and Lobbying, a very active social programme which included a performance by the Blackrock College Boy Band, which was shown live on the big screen on Sunday evening.

It was an excellent experience for the boys, one they enjoyed immensely and I thank Ms Brophy and Mr Mark Smyth for accompanying and preparing them.
