Leman Concert XXXII, Another Great Night!

Another Great Night!
Whenever we visit the National Concert Hall for our annual Leman concert, expectations run high. It is remarkable how year on year the concert surpasses our expectation. We can only marvel at the musical and vocal talent in the College and how it is drawn out by my colleagues. It is truly inspirational stuff. No wonder the concert sold out in 17 minutes.
This year’s theme was ‘Carnival du Monde Naturel’ which, in the words of Killian Grumley Traynor, our excellent Head of Music and Drama, “is an apt metaphor for the dynamics of our school’s vibrant community but also as a reminder of an extraordinary natural world that in the pace of our day to day lives, we may forget to appreciate and take care of”. He wished for the show “to go well beyond the limits of expectation that the term show suggests and that will both exhaust and exhilarate the senses”, Mission accomplished!
Our guests – President of the Union Eunan O’Carroll (Class of 1984) and his wife Judy, the Provincial Fr Marc Whelan (Class of 1980) and our new Chairman of the Board, Damien Kennedy and his wife Cora enjoyed a superb evening’s entertainment.
I congratulate and thank all our performers – soloists, chorists, a capella, trad, jazz and pop groups, our orchestra – and our M.C., who made the role his own and not forgetting the crew who made it all so seamless.
I thank my colleagues Mr Grumley Traynor, Mr Cavanagh, Mr Sullivan, Mr Toirleac O’Brien, Mike Swan, Chris O’Sullivan, Mr Orrock, Mr Prendergast, Mr Maher, Ms O’Kane and Mr Tom Ryan for an incredible evening which left everyone feeling good about themselves, about Blackrock.
