LAUNCH OF JOYFUL HOPE
JOYFUL HOPE – the story of the Holy Ghost Mission School in Sultan Hamud, Kenya, which is now in its second year – was launched in the Fathers’ Library this morning, Thursday 5th , 2015.
The book is an anthology of personal experience told by the parents and past students from the classes of 2011, ’12, ’13 and ’14, by the students and staff of our new sister school and by the Spiritans in Kenya.
It is a wonderful story – a great Spiritan story.
During the Launch, Mr Morris, who is co-editor with Aidan Corless (Class of 1979), outlined the motivation behind the book.
Stephen Doyle, Garry McMahon (both Class of 1979) and past-parent John McCarrick summarised the journey to date and provided insight on the plan for the future.
Joe MacIntyre, Mark Rolland and Charlie Fitzgerald (all Transition Year) read selected passages from the book.
President of the Union, Shane Murphy (Class of 1981) acknowledged the long Spiritan tradition of excellence in education both at home and on the Missions. This project is a continuation of our proud tradition.
I thank Fr. Nash and the Spiritan Community for hosting the Launch.
I thank the many contributors to this project: Fr. Peter Conaty, Chairman of the D.E.A., Christy McDaid and the Willow Wheelers, the College Union and the College Community of Spiritans, parents and students who have made it possible.
To the Class of 2015, the baton has been passed – Go Ye Afar – Go Teach All Nations.
The book is available, €6.00 a copy, from Reception. All proceeds go to the project.
