Joe McGrath Cup Soccer Semi-Final – Senior Team v St Fintans

Joe McGrath Cup
Senior Soccer

BLACKROCK COLLEGE 1 | ST FINTAN’S HIGH SCHOOL 2 |
The senior soccer season came to an end on Wednesday after a 2-1 defeat in the semi-final of the Joe Mc Grath Cup. In tough conditions we controlled possession and had the majority of the ball for the 90 minutes. There were very few clear cut chances for either side as the wind blew strongly across the pitch. Mark O’Leary (6th year) scored from the penalty spot to level the game in the 90th minute after St. Fintan’s had taken an 83rd minute lead.
In extra time a St. Fintan’s penalty won the game for them. We wish them well in the final against either Castleknock College or Ashbourne CS.
It has been a season of “almost there” as two penalty shoot-outs and this extra time defeat have led to elimination from competition.
I thank our coaches Mr O’Brien, Ms Mullen and Jack Reilly (Class of 2017) for their preparation and organisation of the squad throughout the season.
