Comórtas Oráide an Phiarsaigh!
Senior Irish debaters reach Semi-Final
We commend all our Irish language debaters, at both levels. Well done to the Senior Irish Debaters; Jack Burke (TYr), Joey Haughton (6th Year) Ben Kieran-Glennon (TYr), Emmett Gulliver and Joshua Scallan (both 5th Year) for their great work and commitment with Mr Orrock and Ms Ní Shuairc. We commend too the Junior Debaters, Conor McCarron and Peter O’Connor (both 2nd Year), for their commitment and enthusiasm in their work with Ms O’Connor.
At the senior level of this quarter final, Jack Burke, Joey Haughton, Ben Kieran-Glennon, Joshua Scallan spoke very well at the national Gael Linn, Comórtas Oráide an Phiarsaigh, debating against the motion ‘Tá ardchaighdeán iriseoireachta in Éirinn’ (‘There’s a high standard of journalism in Ireland’) and against the motion “Tá deireadh le ‘comhar na gcomharsan’ in Éirinn” (‘Community spirit has ended in Ireland’).
At junior level, Conor McCarron and Peter O’Connor debated very well against the motion ‘Tuigeann tuismitheoirí an lae inniu fadhbanna na hóige’ (‘Parents today understand youth issues’).
Each boy personally recorded and submitted his prepared debate from home and to a very high standard. We commend each of you on your presentation within these recordings.
Congratulations to Jack Burke, Ben Kieran-Glennon and Joshua Scallan who will represent the College at the regional semi-final of 8 speakers, representing Leinster. Two of these Leinster speakers, will proceed to the national final. Go n-éirí go geal leo!
We thank Ms Ní Shuairc, Mr Orrock and Ms O’Connor for their preparation and encouragement of the boys.
