Golf – All Ireland Finals in Portstewart Golf Club, Derry

All Ireland finals
April 2019
A very exciting weekend of golf was provided by our senior team over the Easter break, who were not only representing Blackrock but also Leinster in the All Ireland finals at Portstewart Golf Club in Derry.
After an exciting semi-final victory over the Munster champions, Colaiste Choilm in which Cathal French (6th Year) won his match with a 50 foot putt on the 18th green. Robert Galligan (5th Year) won on the 17th 2 and 1 and Matthew O’Brien (3rd Year) won on the 18th, we faced RBAI in the final.
Unfortunately, we got off to a bad start going down in most of the matches early which made it difficult to recover and we could not repeat the heroics of the morning.
I salute the team which was a credit to their families, coaches and school.

I thank our Games Administrator Mr Evan O’Brien for all the support and effort he put into making the days run smoothly. Conor Hart (Class of 2015) and Conor Byrne (Class of 2017) for their preparation of the team and Ted Collins (Class of 2014) who travelled up to lend a hand on the day.
I particularly thank Ms Fitzgerald for her enthusiastic support for Blackrock Golf, her marvellous organisational skills and finally her extraordinary generosity of spirit in giving up her Easter Bank holiday weekend. Top Class
