Our two teams of Oisin Ryan and Michael Ryan, and Steven Ryan and Simon Huggard (all 3rd Year) represented the College in the first preliminary round of the UCD Junior Schools Debating Competition on Thursday October 9th, 2014.
They debated the Motions:
“This house would ban private schools”
“This house would prosecute the parents of critically obese children”.
Both teams performed well, and look forward to their next rounds. The same students also performed well in the Wesley College round of the Matheson Junior Mace Competition last weekend.
Last weekend, four teams consisting of Joshua Kieran-Glennon and Stephen Rooney, Joshua Gorman-Climax and Michael Fuller, Marcus O’Faolain and Ben Jordan, and Scott Donohoe and Mark Heavey represented the College at the UCD L&H Schools’ Mace Competition. After two days of debating, Joshua and Steven progressed to the Semi-Final, where they were beaten by a strong team from St. Conleth’s who went on to win the competition.
My thanks to Mr. Sheil and Ms. Dobbyn for their facilitation of Debating.
