Cricket Final Leinster School Cup

Cricket Final Leinster School Cup
Wednesday, 22nd May 2019
The Blackrock Senior Cricket team played in the Leinster School’s final yesterday against a strong CUS team at Merrion Cricket Club. Batting first CUS got off to a flying start however, a wicket each to Patrick Morris (3rd Year) and Captain Gavin Hoey (5th Year) got Blackrock back into the game. From there the two spin bowlers Cillian McDonnell (5th Year) and JJ Garth (6th Year) bowled particularly well taking 5 wickets between them and along with Conor Austin (6th Year) managed to restrict CUS to 157-9 in their 40 overs.
In the run chase Blackrock never got going, a constant flow of wickets from an impressive CUS bowling lineup and lack of significant partnerships saw CUS on top and bowled Blackrock out for 52 in reply, with only JJ Garth, Gavin Hoey and David Cosgrave (5th Year) making double figures.
Despite the result we congratulate Gavin Hoey and his team on what has been a significant milestone for Blackrock cricket making our first final since 1967 and with 10 of the 12 players returning next year from yesterday there’s plenty to look forward to next season.
I thank Mr Pickering for his preparation of the team.
