Congratulations to the Senior Soccer Team
Senior XI 5 – St. Bede’s, Manchester 0
Senior 2nds XI 0 – St. Bede’s, Manchester 0 (‘Rock won 3 – 1 on Penalties)
We were delighted to welcome St Bede’s to Blackrock for the weekend.
I congratulate Fred Kenny, Captain of the 1st XI and Brian Furey (both Sixth Year, Captain of the 2nd XI on their respective victories.
A hat-trick by Tom Curran and two goals from Brian Horgan (both 6th Year) capped a fantastic display before an appreciative audience of parents, staff and fellow students. I have never seen better football played by a ‘Rock Senior Soccer Team.
Equally, our 2nds Team played with spirit and style and after an entertaining and close-fought game, penalties by Brian Furey, Cormack Stafford and Andrew Hickey (all 6th Year), combined with excellent goalkeeping by Jake Macken saw us through the penalty shootout. The St Bede’s Squad attended the Ireland v. Italy game on Saturday afternoon and the Fifth Year Family Mass on Sunday morning before their return to Manchester that afternoon.
I thank our Coaches Mr O’Brien, Tom Fennelly (Class of 2010), Dylan O’Reilly and Aaron Pisarnik (both Class of 2013) for their preparation of the Squads, our Games Administrator Mr Fitzsimons for his organisation of the logistics, our Catering and Grounds colleagues (the front lawn looked fantastic) for their tremendous support.
Finally, I thank our parents who hosted the St. Bede’s boys for two nights.
It simply wouldn’t be possible without their generous support.
