Christmas Carol Service 2014
There was a great atmosphere in the Sports Hall as over 1,000 boys, from 1st Year through to 6th Year, gathered in preparation for Christmas.
Fr. O’Brolchain told the boys that, “Jesus’ life was about loving us, never about himself”. This is our model – live our lives for the benefit of others and in this we should be the best we can be.
An atmospheric occasion. The poem, ‘The Christmas Tree’ followed by “Silent Night” in English and German was particularly stirring.
“O Holy Night” sung by Andrew McLaughlin, accompanied by the Leman Choir, generated heartfelt applause.
The Readings, by Roghan McMahon, Richard Heapes, Lars Jager, Hugo Keane, Aaron Fitzgerald, James Quinn and Joshua Kieran Glennon (all 6th Year) Reflections by Fr. O’Brolchain, Prayers – Mr. Barrett, Mr. McGuire, Ms. Kelleher, Ms. McGee, Mr. Herlihy and Carols by the Libermann and Leman Choirs and the Community singing contributed to a very special occasion. There is no doubt that those who missed it, missed out.
Finally I thank our Chorists, Musicians, Readers and Servers, (James Fennelly, William Trueick, Gerard Dillon (all 6th Year) and Diarmuid Foley (2nd Year)) for their reverence, insight and sense of occasion. I particularly thank Mr McDonald, Ms O’Kane, Mr Cavanagh, Mr Grumley Traynor, Mr Fintan O’Connor, Mr Tommy Moore and their wonderful colleagues from Household Maintenance and Grounds, Mr Herlihy, Mr Tom Ryan, Mr Wyer, Mr O’Reilly, Mr Goan and the Deans; Mr McGuire, Mr Rogan, their colleagues and boys of Willow Park 1st Year, my colleagues in attendance, the Spiritan Community, and of course our student body led by our 6th Years.
