Celebration of Remembrance 2017

Celebration of Remembrance
Mission Wednesday: 29th November 2017
Fr. Marc Whelan (class of 1980), Spiritan Provincial, was chief celebrant at our annual Remembrance Mass attended by the family and friends of those who had passed away over the last twelve months.
In a thoughtful reflective homily, Fr, Marc comforted the bereaved. Death is not the end. Even though our life is temporary, God has not left us without hope and a greater purpose for living. The missalette quoted St John Chrysostom “They whom we love and lose are no longer where they were before, they are now wherever we are”.
A wreath was laid on the altar by the President of the Union Eunan O’Carroll (class of 1984) in memory of the 54 past-students who lost their lives in World War I.
It was a powerful liturgy appreciated by the very large congregation. Our Schola Cantorum of Chris Wong, Jack Crowley, Bill Madigan, Kevin McCabe, Kevin O’Donnell, Mark O’Connor, Conor Byrne, Seán Byrne, John Heavey, Patrick Haugh and Rob Somers (all Class of 2017) was magnificent.
I thank Fr. Marc Whelan and the concelebrating priests, Mr Ryan, Ms McMahon, Ms McGlynn, William Woods, Mr Grumley-Traynor, Mr Herlihy, Ms Markey, Ms Nolan, our Union President and his wife Judy for their contribution to a solemn yet uplifting liturgy.
In particular, I thank Fr. Nash, whose genius makes it happen.
