Blackrock welcomed Terenure, St. Andrew’s, Loreto Dalkey, Mount Anville, the Institute, St. Gerard’s, Wesley and High School last weekend to ‘RockMUN’. 235 students in total participated including our own delegates, Conor Barry (5th Year), Dylan Hutchinson, Michael Ryan, Conor O’Neill, Drummond McGinn (all TY), Tom Dooley, Aidan Cavanagh, John Huggard, Lorcan Pathell, Aaron Ryan (all 3rd Year), John Cawley and Michael Lucey (2nd Year) who represented the nations of Palestine, UK and Japan.
Issues such as establishing a Nuclear Weapons Free Zone (NWFZ) in the Middle East, the persecution of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar, conscription into national armed forces, territorial claims over Antarctica, governmental attempts to supress hate speech, acid rain and the economic impacts caused by climate change were debated.
St Gerard’s, Terenure and the Institute won the Outstanding Delegation Awards while St Andrew’s, Mount Anville and Wesley each won Commended Delegation Awards. Our own delegation of Dylan Hutchinson, Tom Dooley, Aidan Cavanagh and John Huggard also won a Highly Commended Award.
Michael Ryan, Dylan Hutchinson and John Huggard won Individual Awards.
We thank our Secretaries General; John Heavey and Scott Donohue (both 6th Year) and our President of General Assembly; Mark Heavey (6th Year) for their organisation of the conference which was on every level, a tremendous success.

Our media team led by Shore Oluborode (TY) and Simon Huggard, Admin team under Max McKenna (TY) and Mark Kenny (3rd Year), helped make this year’s ROCKMUN such a fantastic event. We are grateful to our Catering (led by Mary and Albert), Household (under Kathryn and Alan) and maintenance (led by Fintan) staff who made it work so seamlessly.
Finally I thank Mr Smyth, Mr Rowsome, Mr Walsh, Mr O’Neill, Mr Wade, Ms Corcoran and Ms Brady for their co-ordination of the event.
