U16 All-Ireland Schools Cup Round 1

BLACKROCK COLLEGE 57 | COLAISTE AN PHIARSAIGH GLANMIRE 22 |
A tough first round draw and a long journey to Cork for our U-16’s but they were outstanding from the outset. Considering we were missing two TY players who were involved for the senior team this was an excellent result.
A fast start and strong first half performance saw us take control of the game and they saw this through to the end. We led 24-6 at the halfway stage before eventually running out 37-14 winners.
Captain Jimmy Gilligan and Ronin O’Halloran (both 3rd Year) and Colm Kelly (4th Year) were the leading scorers with 8, 6 and 4 points respectively. Well done.
I thank Ms Grealish who accompanied the team and Mr O’Neill for his organisation of this opportunity.
Next up is Kilkenny CBS away

BLACKROCK COLLEGE 63 | PRES PDLS BAGNALSTOWN 33 |
This was a really strong performance from our senior team and the scoreline doesn’t do any justice to just how tough a game this was. Our opposition was huge, physical side who brought great intensity to every rebound, loose ball and contest throughout the game.
In the first half we played well without being outstanding and built a 30-18 lead. Pres DLS got it back to ten points early in the third however our response was super in the face of the pressure and Pres DLS momentum. We played some superb Basketball with no shortage of pace, skill and intensity to be seen.
We won the quarter 25-7 eventually winning the game 63-33. We are by no means the finished article but for the first game of the season this was very good.
Seán Lardner (22 points) was outstanding and Roberto Brusasca (Captain) with 14 points made a real difference also.
Next up is St.Pauls Monasterevin away in the next round
