Basketball – U19 and U16 Quarter Finals
BASKETBALL
U-19 All Ireland Schools Cup Quarter Final
COLAISTE TREASA KANTURK 69 – BLACKROCK COLLEGE 29
Commiserations to Captain Calum Henry (6th Year) and his Squad who came up against a phenomenal side. Kanturk had a pointguard who scored 46 points over the course of the game and he was the difference between the sides.
Rob Somers (5th year) had an excellent game on offence scoring 11 points.
Calum Henry and his Squad were a credit to ‘Rock on and off the court throughout the trip and their character was highly praised at the game by the Referees.
EAST LEINSTER LEAGUE QUARTER FINAL
Blackrock College 38 – King’s Hospital 31
2 Days after the trip to Kanturk the Squad struggled to find form but still managed to win this Quarter-Final against a determined King’s Hospital side. It was a real test of character and resilience, with Calum Henry scoring 13 Points and Tom Dowdall (5th Year) 12 Points.
Well done to all.
U-16 EAST-LEINSTER QUARTER-FINAL
PALMERSTOWN 21 – BLACKROCK COLLEGE 26
Captain Michael Ryan and the Junior Squad also dug deep to come from behind to win this Quarter-Final. ‘Rock U-16s can be incredibly proud of what was a superb victory.
Palmerstown had a strong opening quarter, opening a five point gap. However, a defensive switch from a man to zone defence saw ‘Rock winning the next three quarters and significantly limit the offensive threat of Palmerstown.
Michael Ryan, Captain (3rd Year) scored 13 points and Tadhg Egan added a further 8. The Squad can be very proud of their efforts and look forward hugely to next week’s semi-final.
I thank our Coaches Mr O’Neill and Shane Kelly (Class of 2013) for their work with the boys.
