Bank of Ireland Bond Trader Challenge

Bank of Ireland
Bond Trader Challenge
On the 23 January 10 students from Transition Year went to the Talbot hotel to represent the college in the Bank of Ireland Bond Trader challenge.
The Bond Trader event aims to simulate a trading floor in a bank by providing teams with news articles and headlines to analyze and then decide on buying, selling or keeping their assets which are held in a portfolio. The assets include various bonds, stocks and cash.
Based on the headline the team would work out what this could mean for the short term economy and would buy or sell accordingly.
There were two Blackrock teams consisting of 5 students per team. Over 150 students from various other schools in Dublin were participating in the challenge.
It was a great learning experience and an insight into trading stocks and bonds made even better as we finished in first-place in the competition.
Patrick O’Neill was the link with Bank of Ireland and Dillon Coughlan accompanied them to it.
