Athletics – Leinster Championships 2018

Leinster Championships
Wednesday, 16th – Saturday, 19th May 2018
We had a great two days at the Leinster schools Athletics championships this Wednesday May 16th and Saturday May 19th in Santry. The standards were exceptionally high with many of our athletes getting personal bests but still falling just short of qualification for the All Ireland’s in Tullamore. Particular highlights include Harry Cullen (TY) qualifying for his 3rd consecutive All Irelands in the shot, finishing in 3rd place and in the Inter Discus finishing in 5th place. Our Intermediate 4×100 relay team consisting of Tom Henderson, Harry Whelan (3rd Year), Luke Pierce and Jeff Kenny (both T Year) finished in 2nd place booking their place in the All Ireland finals.
Overall all participants can be very proud of their efforts. For those that didn’t qualify I would encourage them to join an Athletics club over the Summer and to engage with our winter programme in Athletics next year. To our Athletes that did qualify for the All Ireland we wish them well in Tullamore on Saturday June 2nd.
I thank my colleagues Mr Fitzsimons, Mr Rowsome, Ms Whyte, Eddie McDonagh, Cian Crotty (Class of 2014), Dave Sweeney (class of 1980), Roghan McMahon (Class of 2014), Jack Gardiner (Class of 2015), Shane Keane (Class of 2017) for their expertise and guidance of our athletes.
The All-Ireland will take place on Saturday, 2nd June 2018.
