Debating – Leinster Senior Schools Debating Championship
LEINSTER SENIOR SCHOOLS’ DEBATING CHAMPIONSHIPS
Congratulations to our two teams, Stephen Rooney and Jordan McDonald (both 6th Year) and Scott Donohoe and John Heavey (both 5th Year) which have progressed through to the Quarter Finals of the UCD/Trinity Leinster Senior Schools Debating Competition.
Stephen and Jordan were successful in opposing the Motion that:
This House Would Allow Parents to Vote on Behalf of their Children”despite a string proposition case.
John and Scott also opposed their Motion that:
“This House Would Ban the Media from Reporting on On-Going Criminal Trials”.
Joining the 4 boys in the Quarter Finals are Oisin Ryan (TY) and Stephen Ryan (TY), each as individuals.
In the Junior Debating, our Junior speakers enjoyed their last preliminary round of the UCD Junior Schools’ Competition. Michael Ryan (3rd Year) and Tom Dooley (2nd Year) were successful in opposing the Motion that:
“This House Would Introduce a Quota on Female Director Award Nominations” thus securing a place in the Quarter Finals.
Oisin Tunney and Niall Meagher (both 3rd Year) proposed the same Motion; Niall got through as an individual but, unfortunately, Oisin was unsuccessful in making it through.
I thank Mr Sheil, Ms Dobbyn and Kevin Heavey (Class of 2014) for the opportunity to participate in these competitions and their continuing support and encouragement of all speakers Junior or Senior.
