Of a population of 1,000 boys in Blackrock College, 100 are boarders and reside in Williamstown Castle, a listed Georgian property which has undergone extensive refurbishment in the last 2 years.
For over 100 years the boarding school has been an integral part of Blackrock. It has ensured that the school is a vital living breathing organism not just between 8.45am and 3.40 pm but for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The school’s hugely varied extra-curricular programme, in meeting the needs of the boarders, also reaches out to provide the dayboys with an educational experience par excellence.
Boarding students are and always have been unique members of the Blackrock community. Their experience of the school is by its very nature a very comprehensive one, and therefore traditionally the bond between boarders and Blackrock is particularly strong.
The boarding school traditionally referred to as The Castle, within it’s ethos, stresses the concept of community. The Castle houses approximately 100 boys. We believe that it is vital that everyone of these boys feels cherished, protected and important. The College’s slogan “Be Caring, Be Truthful and Be There” is particularly relevant. A happy boarding facility depends on all its constituents to attend to the needs of each other.
We hope that you get a true sense of the unique opportunities which each boarder has by attending Blackrock College Boarding School, and that it is clear that Blackrock College Boarding School is the premier boarding school in Ireland.
